Concise Oxford Dictionary Analysis: Researchers analyzed the words from the Concise Oxford Dictionary (9th edition) to see how often letters appear in the English language, regardless of how frequently these words may appear in any given texts. This method allows us to gain a better sense of how letters are distributed across the language itself.

Indeed, some enthusiasts try to apply math and statistical analysis to find the best initial words for Wordle. From letter frequencies and letter positions to common word patterns, these enthusiasts wanted to establish words likely to maximize opportunities for useful information early on in the game.

By using the best Word starting, you can actually keep that streak alive. A good starting word should contain a combination of commonly occurring vowels and some of the frequently used consonants, which would then give you the most useful feedback as early as possible. Here are some of the best Wordle starting words to ensure maximum chances of success. After checking all 12,972 words, the algorithm determined that the best starting options are:

CRANE, SLATE, AUDIO

For reasons too complex to go into here, Glaiel concludes that ROATE is the best start word for Wordle if you want to immediately eliminate as many potential answers as possible.

ROATE, REACT, SOURD, LEAPT

Given that the top three don’t feature in Wordle’s possible answers list, that would make STARE the statistically best Wordle start word, based on Fan’s analysis at least.

Coincidentally, Stare is the word independently picked by some of the Tom’s Guide team months ago, without having seen that research, so that’s the one we’d go for.

It was common sense rather than a strategic play: after all S is by far the most popular first letter among answers to Wordle, A the most popular third letter and E the most popular fifth letter. T and R, meanwhile are the two most popular consonants in general across the game.

Wordle tips – How to win at wordle

Winning in game requires strategy, observation, and just a dash of luck to win every game in a row. However, every puzzle is different; still, some important tips will up your chances and keep streaks rolling:

1. Start with a Strong First Word

Choosing the right starting word can set you up for success. Aim for words that:

Use common vowels (A, E, O, I, U)

Include frequently used consonants (R, T, N, S, L, C)

Cover a variety of letter positions.

Popular first words include:

CRANE, SLATE, AUDIO, ROATE, REACT Starting with these words can provide you with a lot of information quickly and help eliminate many possible answers in just one guess.

2. Use the Process of Elimination

Wordle is essentially a game of deduction. Every guess must produce something that eliminates possibilities:

Green letters Good. You’re on the right track-they’re in the right place.
Yellow is the color of the word. Letters have been in inappropriate positions. Use this knowledge to try different placements.
Gray letters don’t appear in the word. Avoid them in your next guesses.
Now let’s try to rule out as many possibilities as we can with each guess. We will avoid repeating the gray letters and use our yellow letters to test different positions.

3. Prioritize Vowels

Words can only be guessed correctly if they contain at least one vowel. Chances are that a large number of the words you guess do not contain any vowels. If you have not managed to find any vowels yet, then ensure that your next word contains some of the most common ones like E, A, or O. Examples of words that will help check for multiple vowels quickly in the game include AUDIO or ADIEU.

4. Look for Common Letter Pairings

Many words share letter combinations or patterns like TH, SH, ER, CH, or ING. So if you’re down to a handful of letters and the puzzle isn’t adding up, use one of those letter combinations for your next guess and see how quickly things narrow down.

5. Don’t Rush; Think Through Your Guesses

It’s tempting to quickly toss out another guess, especially when you’re getting close. But take a moment to think through your remaining options, and make sure you’re using each guess to eliminate as many possibilities as possible.

For example:

If you know that the word has an “R” but not in the second position, don’t guess words with “R” in that spot.
If you have removed all the vowels except one, focus on finding where that vowel might go in the word.

6. Consider Word Patterns and Lengths

Pay attention to common word patterns (like _ER, _LY, _ING, etc.). These common suffixes or prefixes can give you a good idea of what the word is, especially once you’ve eliminated other letters.

7. Know When to Switch Strategy

It’s frustrating, though, if you don’t get it after a few attempts, but sometimes just stepping away and going back with a fresh perspective will help. Take your time, thinking through each word logically-this game is all about playing off of the feedback to progressively eliminate possibilities.

Sometimes, you just can’t use the word you are trying to guess no matter how hard you try because it doesn’t make sense with the letters you have. Do not be afraid to try something completely new in such situations. For instance, in case you have exhausted common patterns, then for your next guess you might think outside the box, even if it isn’t a word you would typically consider.

FAQ

Q1. Are wordle answers from English words?

Every Wordle solution consist of English words. The answers consist of regular five-letter words with some of them being rarer than others. Wordle responds with answers drawn from the selected language when you choose to play the game with language settings different from English.

Q2. Does Wordle use British English words?

Wordle delivers its solutions through American English spellings but certain terms share identical spellings between British and American English. A portion of words share identical spellings between British and American English systems yet both traditions have some distinct ways of spelling particular items.

Q3. Does Wordle use plural words for guesses?

Yes, Wordle allows plural words as guesses, but plural words ending in “S” are not used as answers.

Q4. Does Wordle use plural words for answers?

The game avoids using words with “S” plural endings such as “CATS” and “TREES” for its answers. The word inclusion has multiple plural forms which do not use traditional “S” word endings like “TEETH” and “GEESE”.

Q5. What makes a good opening word?

Integration of regular vowels works because vowels appear across many words throughout this word family. Including A, E, I, O and U enhances vowel detection at the beginning of word recognition. Multiple common consonants should be included because they appear often in words (T, N, S, R and L). First letters that use Q X Z or J should be avoided because they are infrequently used in words.
Your starting word should contain a combination of letters because single-letter words enhance your speed of checking multiple letters at a time.

Q6. Can Wordle words contain the same letter twice?

Wordle has introduced various answers that contain multiple instances of the same letter.
“SPELL” (double L) “ROBOT” (double O) “BLOOD” (double O)
Wordle will underline each correct letter occurrence in the answer when you repeat letters in your guess. For example: An L can turn yellow or green based on position once you enter APPLE as your answer and discover the correct solution is ALLEY. A single occurrence of A in the correct response will get marked with the correct letter only if you enter “BANAL” as your guess.

Q7. Why does Wordle keep losing my stats?

Wordle has the potential to erase your accumulated statistics due to three main causes.
